About the Workshop

The workshop will cover a history of lustre, from 9th century beginning in Egypt to contemporary application. The 4 different types of lustre: pigment, lustre glaze, fuming & resinate will be covered. 

Each technique will be demonstrated with images of mixing, application, how to fire, & results.  Both practical and technical, you will go away with an understanding and knowledge how to create a lustred surface on your work.

With numbers capped at just 12 places, this workshop offers a rare level of individual attention and access to an artist of Greg's calibre. For any ceramicist serious about glaze surface and finish, this is a genuinely not-to-be-missed opportunity.

About Greg Daly

Greg Daly is internationally recognised and respected as one of ceramics' great colourists — an artist whose name is synonymous with rich, luminous glaze effects and a lifetime devoted to pushing the technical and aesthetic boundaries of the medium.

His work is held in the collections of 80 national and international galleries and museums, including the National Gallery of Australia and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, and has been featured in 24 international book publications. He is himself the author of three influential books on glazes, resources that have shaped the practice of ceramic artists around the world.

Greg has held 100 solo exhibitions over the course of his career and has been included in more than 250 national and international group exhibitions, earning 36 national and international awards along the way. His contribution to Australian craft was formally recognised through his tenure as President of Craft Australia from 1992 to 1995, and his research credentials run deep: in 1999 he received an ARC grant to investigate the effect of firing cycles on the development of copper red glazes — research that speaks directly to the rigorous, experimental approach he brings to every surface he creates. As recently as 2019, he was shortlisted for the Sidney Myer Fund Australian Ceramic Award at the Shepparton Art Museum, confirming his place among Australia's most significant living ceramic artists.
